Eagles Summer Event

August is well on it's way and along with it comes rain, lots and lots of rain. So with some indoor time ahead until this next downpour passes I saw fit to update this blog. It's now in the appropriate colours and everything!

But that's not what I wanted to talk about, I wanted to talk about something more fun and of happy memories.

Every first sunday of August I can be found at the Eagles Ranch for the Eagles Summer Event. It's a day full of western demonstrations with horses, the frightening fast dogs as well as the ones that catch criminals. There is linedancing for everyone insterested, workshops a petting zoo and a zebra! On top of that there's a cozy market and a lot of stress on the part of the volunteers and demo riders...

This year was particularly stressful (yet fun!) for me as a 'demo-dummy'. Not only was I going to be having a talk and demonstration of equine dentistry (for this I had been mentally preparing for months, I even got a new hat for the occasion!) but on top of that one of the reining riders was a no-show at the event and I needed to scramble to ride in that demonstration as well! You can imagine the stress, seeing how this only was decided the night before the event... I had no time to mentally prepare for that much time in the spotlight!

All in all it was a really busy and hectic day, but everything came together (Like Hanniabal from the A-team, I do love it when a plan comes together). The weather was lovely, the weather gods even permitted us some sunshine and a nice dry day. Bad for the sale of rain jackets and umbrellas, good for everything else!

I did my dentistry talk and demonstration twice. One of the horses who is a veteran at the dentist with a frequent flyer card saw fit to have a tantrum that day, she too was having a lot of stress! But after a few moments she quieted down and kept her head still for me like a good girl.
Isabel was kind enough to lend me her newly acquired mare Indy and as a proud owner she assisted me in the demos, glowing and grinning from ear to ear.

A picture is worth a thousand words and oh lord, were there ever many pictures made... For a camera phobic like myself it was a little overwhelming to see my face appear that often on the various blogs/hyves and facebook pages but at least now I can steal them and post them here for all to see.
Here are a few thousand words worth of my involvement in the Summer Event.

For more information on the Eagles SUmmer Event and of course MANY more pictures (also the ones in which I look like I shouldn't be left alone without proper supervision) you can check out the website of the Eagles Ranch (here) or their hyves page with all the pictures on it (here).

At the Event I had a lot of fun, I met some interesting new people, sprinkled cards around like candy and made a lot of new friends. Despite all the stress it always causes at the end of the Summer Event, when the weather turns back to something that doesn't allow me to wear white T-shirt outside, I always can't help but look forward to the next year... Where will you be the first sunday of August 2011? I know where I'll be!
